The Hardcore Defense "Delta" products are intended for defense against assault rifle fire including 5.56x45 mm (AR-15) and 7.62x39 mm (AK-47) projectiles. They are not rated to stop the heavier .308 round, but instead use a thinner and lighter steel specially tempered to be able to resist higher velocity strikes from 5.56 mm projectiles. Pure steel shields rated to stop the higher energy .308 rounds need to use a thicker and more ductile grade of steel, the latter of which reduces performance against the 5.56 mm M193 FMJ projectile. If you are only facing handgun and assault rifle fire as would be expected in an active shooter situation, why pay the extra money and carry the extra weight for a Level III shield?

The Delta Special™ is Hardcore Defense's most popular shield and falls between the Alpha and Bravo shields with respect to protection, weight, and cost.  The Delta Special™ was designed for sheriffs, patrol officers, school resource officers, and others looking for protection against AR-15s, AK-47s, and similar threats without the extra weight of a full Level III shield.

Our Delta line of products are made from our most premium ballistic steel, specifically tempered to maximize resistance to 5.56 mm.  The steel is only slightly thicker than that of the Alpha line of products which keeps weight very reasonable for a rifle rated product.  For comparison, the Bravo Shield™ steel is thicker to absorb the higher energy .308 projectiles, and the Bravo's titanium faceplate allows it to resist 5.56 mm bullets with even greater strike velocities.  If you're regularly doing tactical entries, you probably want the Bravo.  For more general use, the Delta Special™ or Delta Pro™ may be a better balance of protection, weight, and cost.

Like all Hardcore Defense shields, the Delta Special™ contains no ceramic or ballistic fiber components, has no shelf life or storage limitations, and can withstand grouped hits and edge hits better than typical ballistic fiber shields.

The Delta Special™ uses the exact same handle assembly as the Bravo Shield™ and can withstand direct hits on the bolt heads
